Very fast paced city, and am looking to learn mumbai from ‘Shantaram’ the book i am reading now. trains and buses are on the move 24 hours. the metros are the lifelines. ever full of life till the mid of the night.

i had the experience of traveling by train, i had put up at Praveen’s place (thanks so much praveen), my brothers classmate and my schoolmate too, at Thane, in Brahmand, very far from even Thane station. I take a rick to the station and then my journey starts to do a V trip to Dadar and from there to Andheri and be sure to get to the western part of it… same way as in chennai where metros divide the city into two.

mumbai is pretty wide and afar if i may call it. so its not easy doing a two wheeler ride and so almost 90% of the population take to metros and then amply aided by BEST buses and rick and taxis afterward… depends if you have luggage and the distance you could opt for a rick or a taxi…

it presents the best of both world, hard core engineering happening so fast apace and then the slum are also adjacent looks like no one bothers about it.

i liked traveling the BEST buses not so crowded when I had traveled short distances though, very neat the way people wait for them and board and more importantly move to the front to get down, i dont know if we can have it the same way in my hometown in Coimbatore especially our place Vadavalli to the city…its always full of capacity…

one thing which struck me was that both the trains and the Best buses were loads of advertising inventory for transit advertising, some BEST even TVs running Best Channels, the programme included some recipe modules, then some jokes and some CSR tvcs. not bad considering if you are travelling 30 minutes.

the mumbaikar spirit was introduced to me earlier in the days some 5 years back when the rains poured and made it a stand still life on june. and ofcourse then the bomb blasts always are a mark of mumbaikar spirit. I see them in action in every pav baaji stall and every paan stall and then ofcourse in the drivers of the rickshaw and taxi…

life is full if surprises when the ricky driver gives me 2 rupees back when i pay him 15, sort of not even imaginable in my hometown Coimbatore.

people shout for me “side! side!” when i almost miss a stop on the metro, (I have never figured even now which side u got to be waiting to get down on the metro for every station.) they were so helpful, i thought someone would have pulled the chain

once i did miss the regular stop in an fast train inspite of the “side! side!” shouts and guess what i am some 15 kms away from my place… and the people really take care to set me in place and see me board the train backward and also the side i got to get down.

its really been going great except that i could not find accommodation so easily… but a broker turned friend has some good news for me. nice person he turned out to be. hopefully that’s settled now. in between i had to stay in a hotel too, in andheri for a couple of nights, the first time it poured and i was shaken every one hour by the whistle of the wind, i could notice that quite a few places don’t have windows just railings only. only solace was it was not that windy that night… i had to watch the rain whenever i woke up.

I do think sometimes you get to spend some extra time on twitter and in case you get interested in something unless you are a Journo or a TV anchor you can be rest assured that your day is gone for a six. Again its a matter of choice and quite often you get to be spending quality time on unnecessary issues like our television anchors do.

Last week esp last two days have been really great for me (@rsenthilkumar) at twittersphere. Monday night was a great time when (Rajdeep Sardesai) @sardesairajdeep answered a question on the issue of Question Hour being wasted. I was on Cloud 9, literally to be getting an answer from Rajdeep Sardesai was no mean achievement.

Then the next was @RashmiBansal, I am to be frank a big fan of hers right from the JAM days, a different person who chose to be different what else. In conversation with her and actually its because of her impact (my entrepreneur label is still being bandied about) she tweeted on the business and wished me goodluck…

Well then ofcourse you have @Chetan_Bhagat, as I was watching the time line, TIME posted that the 2010 TIME 100 list was out and and I had also quit twitter that moment and it struck me I had to check if CB was there I had voted for him, then I caught up with Chetan Bhagat with the news breaking news rather and it was kind of him to say thanks with a buddy added against my name…

I also have had the privilege of being tweeted by @Lalit_Modi the man behind the IPL and the fiasco that followed it. Then ofcourse @Smitarnair makes it a point to answer everytime she can. Thanks.

I believe this twitter has the ability to break the barriers and make it fruitful for the author and the readers alike the case of CB and his fans.

Am so happy for the tweets and it means a lot, a bit of recognition if i may say so of being another Twitterer.

Recently the city hosted a felicitation for Narain Karthikeyan at The Hotel Residency courtesy Young Indians of CII.

The man as usual was all humility personified and well thanks to Yohann Setna, the former Sporting Director, A1 GP Team India and Marketing Consultant Lotus F1, he was exposed for being a prankster too. It was a great occasion personally I got to get in touch with him after a long time…

This is the first global ranking of CEOs based on company performance during their time in office. Created by three INSEAD professors, the ranking is based on a global data set of some 2,000 CEOs of 48 nationalities and from companies in 33 countries.

I tried for Indians and there were two, Mukesh Ambani at 5 and K. Kamath of ICICI at 150.

The best thing is that it is spread over various categories and IT is also there. Please check the article here.

Senna seated & KC seated just above

I have longed to see an Indian colors in the grid and last week was a ray of hope and yesterday I tweeted KC that I just cant wait to see the official confirmation. And lo, it did happen and am very happy for Karun.

The combination seems too good and it presents a good opportunity for Karun to develop and rise to the occasion. With Bruno Senna as team mate the expectations will be much more than usual. On the other hand Bruno himself will have to race under pressure which I presume will be a great help to Karun.

One more factor which works for Karun is that there will less of pressure from people back home since its not like how it was when Narain gate crashed the F1 circuit. I still have those memories when people thought he ought to have won all the races. Imagine Jordan beating the Ferrari would be straight out of comics or sometime the next film script might allow that.

The Indian F1 fan is much more matured and Karun is not the first driver to do the feat and then ofcourse we shall have comparisons. This time around the look of the grid is something pretty awesome what with Ring Master aka King being back. I am referring to Micheal Schumacher. He would be the most watched person.

I think KC’s presence in the grid is more than a reason that I will be regular. Wishing Karun all the very best and hoping that he will do well as much as possible in the given car and hope he beats his team-mate the first competition on the grid.

KC presence should boost a bit on the marketing front vis a vis selling F1 for the Indian audience for an Indian GP in 2011 hopefully.

This should get some relief for all Indian drivers especially after what Mr. Mallya had said. Well hope things will be better for sure. Now will wait to watch the qualifying to see if KC can spring a surprise, I would wait with my fingers crossed.

Indian F1 fan.
