Let me start with a confession that I am reading Anuja Chauhan for the first time.

This book is a journey of the minds and the machinations of every character unfolding in front of us in a way that you can only imagine. All about the characters that occupy the house that BJ built.  The brashness of the language, adds a certain authenticity to the character’s lives is unforgettable. In case you have lived in New Delhi and you would want to get back there for atleast the way the action happens at No. 16 Hailey’s then this is a trip worth taking.

There is an eclectic mix of the bollywood, the family saga and the sisters in tow and ofcourse the big house in the plot. You would be a witness to many a whims and fancies and start thinking through the minds of the characters.

Probably that’s one of the biggest traits that the author has and makes you go with the flow.

The story of Bonu Singh  and whether she would give away her part of the hissa for the sale is the story, with her past especially her mom’s words ringing in her head.

You will enjoy the Punjabi dialect and the whole some family story of the sisters and the two characters in Bonu and Samar. Pick up this book for its sheers story telling ability and keeping you engrossed with the mind reading ability of the author.

The Delhi girls attitude and the Bollywood’s touch in the making of the characters would make you think if you are watching a bolly wood movie. Quite a possibility that this could even be a film in the making, well there is already a film in the making in the story!

Overall a nice read I would rate 3 stars out of 5 for the style of the author where she does the story telling very effortlessly. I had only this if there were too many characters in the book and may be we had too many stories nevertheless.

My Airtel App – the go to app for managing your mobile account

The biggest telephone mobile operator Airtel has billing issues which often turns the customer very angry. The customers also have a real problem in the sense that they have to get the real readings and I think this has a solution and they have come with a new app! The most important thing for me is to measure my bandwidth usage and that makes all the bill to be readable and make sure I pay within limits. And if you have an Airtel DTH even that can be used around here and you can pay your bills with a click.

Some of the features which I was impressed are here:

1. Unbilled Usage

The download and installation was breeze and it got my number and was showing the bill straightaway with my due date and the amount to be paid. One of the most important features is this and yes you could also see your unbilled amount and this will help you keep tab on how much you are spending. Probably one of the first features I would recommend. We can look at this part to know what could be the billing

2. My Data (consumption)

This is easily one of the best things which I could also look for being authoritative especially when we have different set of readings from an external app with that of the Airtel own meters if we could say.

GIves you a reading on the usage of the bandwidth on a day to day basis and lets you keep tab of the consumption.

3. Recharge any number

With more than 4 Airtel prepaid numbers in the family this is a great new way to recharge and get well get coupons on every recharge. This will be an easy way to recharge when the charge is out especially when it matters most during travel or when they cannot.

Other features include the using the managed services tab and making request. I think request will have a great response provided that there is a need fulfilled way of looking at it.

The overall interface looks pretty cool with the brand colors making it all more cool in a way.

You can go shaking your phone and get amazing offers and if you are online shopper you will be all smiles with the offers on hand. There were a lot of irresistible offers.  You could end up talking for free with the offers available.

This is available on Google Playstore the android version as of now and iOS is in the works and will soon be available in some time.

I am sure this is an utility app and will be quite useful for us to be on watch with respect to the billing. Any money saved is money earned. And thats possible here with My Airtel App.

I did try some to get the best combination of slim or custom shirt. I chose a slim 40 for my shirt which fit in well. There was a sense of exuberance and a sense of elation when you wear it and feel the power and also the right fit. With this I am sure they have taken the MY FIT to the level that they had envisaged. The Mouse Charmers – Digital Pioneers of India by Anuradha Goyal #Bookreview

A nice classic if I can call it for the start-up community and the entrepreneur in you. I know the author as the quintessential blogger and this is a nice compilation of the stories that have impacted our life.  With the impact of internet and the mobile only going to go higher in our lives we need to know these companies from the inside out. And this book achieves that.

The story and the narration of the companies and the business model and the technology being laid thread bare makes you appreciate the nuances with ease and may be kindle the entrepreneur in you.

After reading this I felt we need more stories like this should be introduced to the young people so they can take the risks and look at the entrepreneurial journey at an young age.

The author has taken the 3 Cs – Commerce, Content and Connectors as the theme and woven a nice story around the customer and the company in question. This will surely be an eyeopener for the readers in a way they are introduced to these companies.

She has got it with the three Cs. Obviously we have more players and I am sure the constraint in the space would be the reason for not getting others in here. Nevertheless it has achieved the purpose.

I would recommend this to any one who is thinking about entrepreneurship especially in the technology domain. Though the times and technologies have changed, the inherent spirit of the entrepreneur and the way he goes about will remain the same.

I am sure you would be able to find your calling or niche and also sometimes make judgement about your business plan when you read this book. You would easily find the answers at ease.

I don’t want to write in with each companies specified here but I am sure these will serve as lessons on both sides, success becuase they have and for us how not to do it.

One thing I must mention is that Indiblogger is also a part of this stories under the connectors. Thanks Indiblogger for sending in this book!

A nice read and highly recommended one at that – startups and those starting up, the time you invest here in this book will be doubly rewarded.

Absolutely a great financial thriller which goes with a a nice plot and gets to a very logical and befitting end. The author’s background in finance and his experience perhaps are key to the plot and he takes the readers on a roller coaster ride with the happenings and a wonderful Police Inspector in Ranade.

The story has all the detailing to make it a last page thriller and a page turner. The incidents are very well thought out and the pace at which it moves makes for a delightful read. There are no bumps and the characters are well etched out. Only feel that so many people have had to die. The technology angle is presented in a very easy way for the readers to understand and relate to. In a way the reader is equipped to see a lot of the happening around him though not in exact circumstances.

The characterization of Varsha stand out. I loved the part that a female character is central to the story. Especially the part that she can defend herself physically being a martial artisit in Karate. The story has the father daughter relationship well intertwined in the plot.

The plot with real estate and the benami cartel companies are a documentation in itself. There is a heady mix of corporate, fraud, political and police in a cocktail. I am sure makes for a nice movie in some time wont be surprised.

The way the perpetrators go about with easy calm demeanor is a highlight and keeps up the suspense till the end.

The author has taken minute details into account in weaving a nice thriller and keep you hooked till the end. Right from the start with the murder of the employee till the knot is untied its a racy story.

Some nice attempts like the sending of message from the mobile by a character are pretty small, but I think the ccharacterizationwas absolutely stunning.

A great work from an author who I believe will continue to churn out more novels and looking forward to many more titles from him. I am sure this would be one of the finest thrillers and would go to become a best seller.

My rating: 4/5 Fast read!

The match making TVC ad from Quikr! just that my laptop got a long awaited printer and makes for a nice healdine too, now to the blog!

I have always been fascinated by the classifieds business in the sense that they cater to a whole lot of businesses, and India being a very price sensitive market, it was always going to work in favour of classifieds since they are easy to locate and more so very targeted.

My journey was going to be the last rush hour – read “Quikr” since I have been travelling across on business and personal things. I knew Quikr will help me bridge the the time out and make it happen in the quickest possible time.

I have been browsing long enough on the site now for almost a fornight, but never have looked so close into the logo; the green and blue combo – one of the basic and attractive  web colours that have an appeal. Then I decided to have a close look, the innate ex copywriter / designer in me wanted to see that.

And I was pleasantly surprised to see a pair of roving eyes and a swoosh that possibly was a searching some stuff and the time taken to find it respectively depicted in the logo… and the logo meant a word literally quicker! ok forget the formalities guys – Quikr! sounds quicker! Period.

So I browsed a lot of categories in Coimbatore, well that’s my hometown and lot of things caught my attention. We are known for cars and also high end luxury cars and to my biggest surprise, I found more than 5 pages dedicated to Mercedes Benz! You got to see it to believe it.

I clicked on an ad and found it interesting, there was a cute dog in the pic, and was wondering if it is part of the deal! See how cute the dog is in this pic!

Some of my other categories that I looked into were home furnishing, computers, laptops to name a few.

Now to the most important part of the story. Why I purchased what I purchased from Quikr and at INR 5000 at that?

A little background, its been just 2 months into being on my own, yes you guessed it right – entrepreneurship runs in my blood or so I thought and well quit my job to start afresh. Literally meant to start afresh and it means boot strapping of the highest order. I was smart enough to save and buy a laptop which meant my mobility in terms of business was taken care. But we aren’t the smart ones are we?

Just as I was settling to the rigour of social media and pitches and sweet talking to my prospective clients, I found something missing for all the communication that we do on email and Whatsapp and sometimes on FB chat, still there was this ‘proposal’ that had to be sent in paper yes printed in black and white.

That’s how I came to a printer searching spree at last! A small search on the Quikr was enough, and I had a whole lot of sellers and I wanted to be specific in terms of doing the job, a printer called by any other name should be a printer that’s what I wanted and no additions, scanning is today done by the mobile phone camera some 5 MP you see!

Simply put it was on the purchase list No.1 for the small office. Add to an independent Wifi connection and some card readers and some extra accessories. To be fair I thought this month the budget would be the mandated INR 5000/-. (thank you Blogadda)

So my search was narrowed down to very clear price range 2000 to 5000 and also the in the last 14 days that I thought would be better off since the later ones could be better priced products.

Called and visited the store/owner for a used printer and finalised the price as given.

The HP printer on top of the listing was ideal in my situation, it was at INR 3750/- and also some more printers.

Now to call the dealers / individuals and they were all very warm in their approach.

And after an hour or so, I decided to go check and see how the printer is and make the real purchase.

I was welcomed by a very affable customer service owner of the store in DB Road, and in the conversation that followed he was very happy with the Quikr and was only apprehensive about some duplicates flooding the listing. He has been using Quikr and it has got him rewards from across the state and he is specialising in Apple products apart from all other peripherals and laptops to mention a few. He was very happy stating he had clientele across the state and even from Bangalore and they had travelled to pick up just in case they wanted to verify.

He was like if there was a verified vendor or a review on sold products from him it would do a lot. (Quikr, I am sure there is a business opportunity here )

Checked with the piece took a printout and was satisfied. Here is the machine in real!

Another one on the list of office shopping or business shopping was a Wifi – Data card long since been thinking of this… and Quikr didn’t disappoint. The best part was the same vendor offered me a choice of the same when I told him I saw his name when I went to pick up the printer enroute home.

And the deal was made and the purchase was done the Quikr way! It is not only the used product I also got a brand new wifi data card at a steal! INR 1250 against the 1399 / 1299 quoted price! Quikr also gets you a bargain!

Now back to the marriage story!

At last my laptop got its bride in a printer. and you can see them happy. Also got the TNPL copier at a price lower at a wholesaler the Quikr way ofcourse.

So in case you are getting ready for a match for anything get your hands on the web or download an app of Quikr, then shoot and post the ad and get the match the buyer in no time!

I should say it was an awesome experience and more so an utility oriented one at that! Now I know who to call when I need something to be done Quikr!

Final word – got a nice friend in the dealer and he will possibly be selling some laptops too in the near future too!

I found some good shops in the process and some nice service providers too, and all have made to my list esp for gifting and stationery.
